The newly founded Mossel Bay Business Chamber will promote the interests of the town making it more competitive. We need to make Mossel Bay more attractive to investors and to create an environment for entrepreneurs to create career opportunities. We need to bring economical changes by means of education and training.

Mr. Piere Venter said the CBD must be upgraded and the residential areas must also be upgraded and cleaned

The CBD must be upgraded and made more interesting with new and exciting projects, seeing the current situation is not acceptable. Residential areas must be cleaned and upgraded. The unplanned and ugly developments give the town a bad reputation according to the chairman of the Business Chamber, Mr. Pierre Venter said to the Burger.

The town showed a phenomenal growth over the past few years and secured its position as a holiday and a retirement destination. Drastic measures are needed to upgrade and develop the business sector. It is therefore crucial to find new ways to stimulate the local economy. Especially if one bears in mind that PetroSA according to speculations will not play such a vital role in future as at present.

Mossel Bay needs to be competitive, not only locally, but global as well.

Greater emphasis will have to be placed on small businesses and industries to stimulate economic growth. A pre requisite for such a developments project is that the town and the local community must be competitive. To be competitive requires physical, intellectual and cultural assists of people with talents, skills and creativity. Mr. Pierre Venter believes that the town needs not only to be locally competitive. We need to be globally competitive with all the tourism coming from abroad. Services need to be excellent, facilities of world class standards and Mossel Bay needs to make visitors excited.

According to Mr. Venter we have all it takes, we just need to develop and utilize it. How does one stay unique and stay on the fore front of opportunities? How does one utilize all the opportunities? Pierre believes that the Soccer World Cup 2010 will be such an opportunity and that Mossel Bay can not afford not to benefit by it and thus grab the opportunity.

On Friday the group of courageous women received their Harley Davidson motor cycles at the Tygervalley shopping Centre in Bellville.

October is Breast Cancer Month and on Saturday October 17, 15 breast cancer survivors started their eight day Journey of Hope  from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The Clicks Journey of Hope was initiated to promote awareness of breast cancer, educate on early detection and to raise funds for women who require reconstructive surgery.

The Dreamcatcher operates daily from Quay 4, Commercial Slipway next to the Mossel Bay Yacht club
Dreamcather is an 8m Buttcat.  The boat is equipped with two, powerful 115 Mercury outboard engines.  Have GPS (global positioning by satellite) and a Fish finder onboard.  Dreamcatcher also have a toilet facility onboard, comfortable seating and an enclosed cabin with soft resting place for the kids.  The boat operates daily from Quay 4, Commercial Slipway next to the Mossel Bay Yacht club where all cruises begin and end.

The skipper on Dreamcather  has more that 15 years experience.
Dreamcatcher is a registered passenger charter vessel, has a full SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) safety certificate and always has a qualified skipper aboard. Our top class skipper has 15+ years of experience and is very safety conscious.  We adhere to the highest standard when it comes to presenting a clean, well equipped and safe fishing vessel. Thus far we maintain a 100 % safety record.

possible.  We love children and welcome them aboard the age of eight.  Younger children are not barred but may not enjoy the experience as much as parents imagine.  But from eight the magic of a sea trip is wonderful to see in a child’s eyes.  They must always wear a life jacket and are the responsibility of their parents or guardian wile aboard.

Fishing, tackle and fish species.

All the fish you  catch can be taken home to show off to the family and friends. This is of course subject to size and bag limits. The fish most commonly caught in our waters are, Red roman, Red Stump nose, Santer, Red Steenbras, Carpenter,  Kabeljou/Cob, Shad, Bonnito and sharks. Please be aware tat every person wants to go on a fishing tripp must be in possession of a valid recretional fishing permit, obtainable at any Post Office.

We request however that the client is responsible for his/ her own warm clothing, windbreaker, sunscreen, food and drinks (refreshments).  We supply cool storage for your cooler box.

Miss Garden Route  Make Over finalists

The four finalists in the shelter’s makeover competition were:  Danika
Everts (Malibongwe, Oudtshoorn), Annelise Arendse (CEF Mossel Bay), Felicia
(Women Who Care Knysna) and Janine Gelderblom (Phambili in George).
The overall winner was Annelise Arendse.

The annual Miss Garden Route/Klein Karoo project, organized by the Garden
Route Casino in Mossel Bay,  does not only entail beautiful girls from the
region who enter to become the “Face of the Southern Cape”. At the “heart”
lies the abused women and children who turn to the shelters to empower them.
For the past three months, three women from four shelters in the Southern
Cape, were treated to a makeover to let them experience how it feels to be
treated like royalty.
Several businesses and individuals in the four towns where the shelters are
located, have made these makeover experiences a once in a lifetime event for
most of the women. The shelters that benefit from the project are:
Malibongwe (Oudtshoorn), Phambili (George), Women Who Care (Knysna) and CEF
(Creating Effective Families in Mossel Bay).
A finalist was selected from each shelter and these four women attended the
gala evening where Miss Garden Route/Klein Karoo 2009, Louise Muller (18)
from Mossel Bay was crowned. The four finalists received a surprise when
Pick-n-Pay vouchers for R1 000 each were handed to them. Nicole Moolman from Group Editors in George, was very upset when she learned that only the
winner would receive R1 000 cash from the Garden Route Casino. She then
negotiated and was able to organize a voucher for each of the finalist.
The winner of the make-over competition is Annelise Arendse from CEF in
Mossel Bay. According to her it is amazing to experience how one can regain
your self respect and confidence in an environment of love and protection
where you do not constantly have to fear for your and your children’s lives.
All the proceeds of the ticket sales will be divided amongst the four
shelters. Last year more than R150 000 was donated to the shelters.

La Laconda, Italian Restaurant received its first American Express Fine Dining award

La Locanda, the delightful Italian restaurant at the top of York Street in
George is one of the 13 new restaurants country wide to join the ranks of
the American Express Platinum Fine Dining Programme. The restaurant received its first Platinum Award at the Award Ceremony held at the One and Only Hotel in Cape Town on Monday 28 September.

Serendipity ( Wilderness) and Pembrys (Knysna) also received their awards

Rudolf and Lizelle Stolze from Serendipity in Wilderness and Peter Vadas
from Pembreys in Knysna were present at the ceremony to receive their
awards.

Stonehill Restaurant from Klein Brak River received their third consecutive award

Stonehill Restaurant in Klein Brak River is the only Mossel Bay restaurant
to received this award. This was their third consecutive award and
especially a feather in their cap seeing that the restaurant has been under
renovation and construction for the past few months.

Stonehill Restaurant  and Cool Bay Wines will reopen on 17 October 2009 with new cellar and tasting facilities

According to owner Allan Robertson Stonehill Restaurant and Cool Bay Wines
will reopen to the public on Saturday 17 October. The brand new cellar and
tasting facility, the brainchild of Boplaas’ Carel Nel, will be open daily
for tasting and the selling of wine.

Louise Muller crowned as Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2009

Last night at the prestigious Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo beauty pageant, Miss Louise Muller (18) from Mossel Bay was crowned  Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo  2009. Louise with her outgoing personality will be the “Face of the Garden Route for 2009” and also the ambassador for tourism in the region.
Noluthando Mkhobeni, Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2008 had the honour to crown the winners. The second runner up was Miss Nathalie Graaff (23) from Mossel Bay and the first princess  Miss Jeandre de Villiers (19) from Oudtshoorn.

The gala event was held at Pinacle point and hosted by Garden Route Casino. Mr. Paul Rothman  an ex Mr. South Africa and Pasella presenter was the master of seremonies. Top South African artists like Flip a Coin, Nadine and Gift Gwe impressed with their performances. Lalakoi wish to congratulate the Garden Route Casino on a a superb event!
